Built NY Neoprene 15 inch Laptop Sleeve

By admin · Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 · No Comments »

The new Electric range from BuiltNY is putting the funk into function! The laptop sleeve stretches for a custom fit with a unique ‘Shark Gill’ grip and hourglass shape.

The BuiltNY laptop sleeves are made of 5mm Wetsuit Grade Neoprene with soft fleece lining and is machine washable. Please note that this is a very important factor to look at when selecting a neoprene sleeve. Not all neoprene sleeves available in the market are of the same quality. Most of the other neoprene sleeves use a cheaper, thinner and non-wetsuit grade neoprene material – which means your laptop gets less protection and that’s why you pay less for them.

BuiltNY has created the best neoprene laptop sleeve you can get – available for 15 inch to 17 inch laptops.

How do you Clean a Brand new Neoprene laptop case?

By admin · Sunday, March 14th, 2010 · 1 Comment »

I just bought a brand new 15″ Neoprene Sleeve for the MacBook Pro in “muted cyan” or blue as i like to call it. On the first day i brought it home, something got on it, so i (stupidly) licked my finger and tried to clean what it was off. well that didn’t work and now i have like… wet spots on the case. Has this happened to anyone else? And does anyone know how to fix it? Also, i’d like to point out that the inside of the case is like… a fur kind of thing, and i don’t know if i should put it in the wash because of that.

The sort that is used to make laptop sleeves and so on – I don’t want industrial quantities, only enough for craft work.

Can you iron neoprene?

By admin · Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 · 1 Comment »

I want to get a plain neoprene sleeve for my laptop and put iron-on decals on it. If I try to iron on the decal will the neoprene melt and get ruined or will it withstand the heat long enough for the iron-on to attach? Thanks!

Neoprene products are often laminations of closed cell neoprene foam as an inner core, and knit polyester fabric. That’s the kind of material from which wet suits, and a lot of computer sleeves are made. It has a melt point of about 250 degrees Farhenheit, which is well below that of most iron on transfer products. Moreover, the neoprene fabric sandwich is a really good thermal insulator (which is why it is so desirable for wet suits and protective clothing), but this property means that heat won’t be conducted away easily, making the material seemingly "sudden" to melt, once near its melt temperature.

A better approach might be to put your iron-on artwork on a separate patch of fabric, and then sew the fabric patch to the neoprene sleeve.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of both – materialwise???

Neoprene is stronger, thicker and will most likely to protect your laptop better.
